New formation 22:16 - Oct 21 with 362 views | dowsie3 | Well KM may have made 7 changes but one thing under him that never changes is the system we are so bad without the ball I think he needs to probably go 4-3-3 so we have 3 in the middle and make us more solid. I know the system we play now got us promoted 2 years ago but even then we conceded a lot of goals.

Nothing has changed off the ball in all the years KM has been here What has changed is we can not score goals unless philogene is involved.

New formation on 22:22 - Oct 21 with 284 views | Parky | He absolutely has to. Tactically naive to continue sticking with this rigid 4-2-3-1 that isn’t working. His stubbornness to even change it when we’re losing at home to Charlton is slightly concerning. What harm would it have been to sling 2 up top tonight, or 3 in midfield after conceding?

It isn't a rigid 4-2-3-1. Tonight, Davis was back playing an inside left role supporting the midfield (thus making a three) or wider inside of Clarke. Under KM, we have played three at the back (with Davis effectively a winger), two at the back with Morsy and Mass holding allowing not only Davis but Harry Clarke to get forward as well. On 'paper' it might be a 4-2-3-1 but it really isn't. This season (and tonight), Greaves has been clearly and obviously tasked with carry the ball forward and getting into midfield. Kipre when he's played in his place - hasn't been given that task. So, in fairness, it isn't rigid. Your point about 2 up, is the one element where we really haven't tried and with the game changing, I think you'll see this more and more from other teams and I think we'll end up there, eventually.

Happy to agree to disagree. The fact I can predict his substitutes every single time is telling enough to me. 7 changes from Friday night, I wouldn’t say a single thing changed regarding our shape and the way we tried to play.

Predicting substitutes doesn't quite equate to rigid formation, does it? Also, the 'way we tried to play', again, has nothing to do with formation. Under KM we have a 'way of playing' we have an identity, it's actually one the main reasons we have been successful under him. Players know the runs and passing patterns, the triggers etc. However, within that there is freedom, freedom on when to make the runs, when to stay, when to bear a player, when to pass, when to shot or to cross and so on. We look to encourage teams onto us, to play through the lines, to exploit space etc. We aren't afraid to hit a longer ball either, a diagonal pass or pop a ball into a channel if it's there. I find it interesting that people think we are rigid, stuck with only one way of playing.
