| Have Charlton set the template for away teams at PR this season? 11:53 - Oct 22 with 403 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | Looked like they played a 5-3-2 for the 90mins and this is how it looked effective to me: - Man to man in midfield. Our 3 vs their 3. Aggressive approach resulting in higher turnovers on individual duals. - A back 5 where the wing back took the wide man, with the wide CB covering an under/over lapping run. We know we like to create a left-hand side overload to get Davis advanced. This threat appeared to be nullified last night. - Front 2 looking to stretch play in behind (they played into the space countless times with success). I think as an opposing manager, we don't trouble in behind as we don't play a style which encourages runners off the ball, it's more ball to feet and enticing a press to play around. I guess if you're aggressive and brave, like Charlton were last night, there is a reward there if we're not at it. | |

| Have Charlton set the template for away teams at PR this season? on 12:37 - Oct 22 with 325 views | homer_123 | No. What Charlton did was what most teams during our L1 and Champ successful season did. Make themselves hard to beat. Poor defending aside - we had enough chances to do in at half time 1 or 2 up last night. | |

Really? Tell me what clear cut chances we had? Akpom hit the bar and had one saved. Azon had one smothered on the rebound. But wouldn't say we had guilt edged chances. Charlton had the two best chances of the half with the one on one and a tap in at the back post somehow being spooned over the bar.

But our team in our successful L1 and Championship seasons were more fluid, creative and threatening compared to the team we've seen so far in the opening 10 games this season. Our patterns of play are there, but not as consistent or effective compared. Roughly 2 years ago, we played Hull at home in the Championship and blew them away with our patterns of play. Fast forward 2 years, we have looked more reliant on individual quality rather than a cohesive team display across the 10 games. We are very ineffective down the right compared to the left too. I agree, we had chances to be 1 or 2 up last night, but I thought Charlton had an aggressive approach (not to forget, they're a newly promoted team) and executed it. I just wonder if that is a template opposing teams will look at.

It has to be, we are very vulnerable on the break, we are always going to give chances. Charlton essentially did to us what Maidstone did with better players. West Brom will setup exactly the same with more quality than Chartlton.

I didn't think they even did that particularly well. They gave us lots of space and time. We just made ourselves incredibly easy to beat.
