The Unstable Report - confidence on the floor; can the fans/players fix it? 23:03 - Dec 2 with 310 viewsunstableblue

First off let’s celebrate Egeli’s first goal, and what a cracking finish.

And a 94th minute claw back of a point. Many had left by then!

Look that was poor. Our players look bereft of confidence. And that has to change, and fans need to realise they have a part to play. And that starts Saturday.

I have to say the away end were pretty quiet tonight, but they never turned on the team despite some of the lacklustre moments… so credit to them.

Tonight was a weird game. We were ‘dominant’ for most of the first half, but with the lethargy and lack of incisiveness of team with no confidence.

What we might be missing is that Blackburn set up very well, they stayed close to Clarke, and loaded the central midfield. And we lacked pace in our passing and were awful passing out of the back. And Blackburn had a width that we completely lacked and they started causing us issues.

That was possibly McAteers best game. But the patterns weren’t there. Clarke was ineffective, part his own issue, part the set-up. Akpom and Azon were actually OK, but no one was releasing them. There was a ball to Young to then feed McAteer, Akpom or Azon that just wasn’t being used.

I did think the early subs was a good step from McKenna. Nunez and Cajuste improved us. And we had a spell. But then Blackburn grabbed the game and scored.

Most of the second half became depressing. But after a goal that was inevitable given the number of corners. We did rally! And on about 80 minutes we put an incisive entertaining move together that ended with a Cajuste shot over the bar.

Egeli, Nunez, Young pinging it around - IT SHOWED WHAT WE CAN BE!

So in summary - no confidence, poor quality, but moments, but we salvaged a point. And turning on the team is the last thing we need.

I should add that Davis and Matusiwa were really off their game on 23:13 - Dec 2 with 231 viewsunstableblue

Matusiwa was brilliant at Oxford before his error, but tonight Blackburn got into him and he struggled

Davis was below par and we nee him to be buoyant or our game plans falls apart a little

Dominant in the first half!! Really!
Oh no the dreaded patterns of play!
Akpom and Azon were awful.
Is Young any better than Harry Clarke 2 seasons ago?

Think you may have missed the quotation marks around dominant. What I meant we had more possession. And had some control. Second half they were in charge for large periods.

Akpom and Azon weren’t awful they just had zero, ZERO, decent service or connection.

The fans may not have 'turned on the team' but large numbers of them didn't help by yelling at Walton and the defenders as we played out from the back.
Walton standing on the ball to invite their strikers on is a tactic we've used for three years and gained two promotions through but it's obviously out of favour with some.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
