Does my memory fail me, or when McKenna first came in, did he not have lots of changes every game, and results were up and down, and then he stuck with a settled side and results improved?

not exactly, he made a total of one (enforced, swapping walton and hladky) change in the first 3 games, then made more regular changes through the rest of the season.
results were good pretty much the whole way through the season, without the exceptional levels of the promotion season, when he'd had a whole pre-season with most of them (all the key signings came in before game 1) |  |

He's always made changes, I remember he made five (albeit one effectively enforced, bringing Morsy back from suspension) before the 3-0 midweeker against Hull that was among the defining moments of our promotion season. I think people are getting hysterical about this, I'd query a few specifics among the times he's tweaked it but if there's an issue it's more the players themselves we've brought in than the number of rotations.
