| Think it bears repeating to say 21:14 - Dec 13 with 4345 views | BouncebackIpswich | Our recruitment and player trading has been absolutely dogsh1t, not just this summer but last too. It gets mentioned on here but I don't think enough, there really needs to be some accountability for how shambolic it's been. ITFC suddenly found themselves with money and seemingly not a clue how to spend it effectively. Despite big talk about strategy and ambition it's been absolute kid in a sweet shop stuff. Whether that's due to a lack of infrastructure, scouting network, I don't know and maybe the club was shown up for having grown in a short space of time. Kieran is doing the best he can with this bunch and I don't think he can actually get much more out of them. Some are just not that good, or if they are, they were signed without thinking how they'd fit into the team. He doesn't get a free pass either as he should have had some better idea of how to fit signings he presumably gave the green light to into his team. Szmodics, Akpom, Cajuste, Young.... What was the plan behind these signings? It's really depressing as it feels like an extremely promising position for the club is being frittered away due to gross negligent incompetence in this area. Or whoever is doing the deals below him. Been some good players in amongst it but when you look at the overall body of work in the market it’s been disappointing. Jordan James today as an example, head and shoulders above Taylor, why aren’t we grabbing him instead of McAteer for stupid money in a position where we already have players. How long was Akpom on our radar? I doubt very long. Hirst and Azon aren’t going to get it done. To be fair, I’m sure we missed out on many and Hackney would have likely been a game changer but did we have a plan B? It’s all a bit unbalanced and we don’t have the intensity or tempo to go and grab games by the scruff of the neck. Everyone wants it to work but it’s just lacking. [Post edited 13 Dec 21:46]

Think we still have more right than wrong by some distance, since promotion we have signed Delap, Hutchinson who by any standard was incredible business. O Shea is a premier league defender, we will profit with him if we don’t go up. Greaves is decent but kept out by Kipre . Everyone else you can see the logic or they have good or ok, Furlong, Palmer, Matusiwa look good Clarke Philogene are quality champ players who may be able to step up. Azon, Cajuste, Akpom are loans and not worked thus far. kipre looks great in the championship The only puzzlers are Macateer and Szmodics. We were rushed into some decisions this summer then couldn’t quite get the players wanted .

Delap great, Hutchinson good talent evaluation and development from the summer of promotion to the Championship. Was pleased we signed him, as knew we’d be able to get a good profit on the lad. Loved watching both of those play for us. However, you’re kidding yourself unfortunately about a lot of the rest. Greaves cost 15M and is sitting on the bench in the championship, look at say an Alderete at Sunderland, he cost 10M. We overspent for the talent acquired, many of the players don’t fit the style KM traditionally plays (especially in the 10 position), which is the baffling part. O’Shea is decent, a large fee but for sure he can play in defense for a top EFL or lower PL club. Overall, it may still be enough to get out of a poor league (although that’s clearly in doubt at the moment) but you’ll never convince me the body of work in the market the last 24 months has been good. You can see it with the unbalance in the squad, even by positions. The asset allocation to the ring wing over striker for example. McAteer and Ogbene cost us a what, combined 20M? One is on loan, the other can’t even get in when our starter is injured. Thats no chump change. No back up 6, no true partner for Azor and still playing our 1.5M striker for the league 1 promotion days up front, who is very much struggling this year. I thought he would have a good season tbf but we really should have brought in a proven goal scorer at this level with the funds available at our disposal. We are relying on January again. Whether it is recruitment or tactics they are streets ahead. And this is from a club that almost went bust a few years ago, who were in a worse financial state than us under Evans Yet I don't see the Sunderland fanbase praising him as the new messiah (at least not yet) like how we worshipped McK and MA even when we were getting pumped week in week out in the PL |
Le Bris is a top gaffer. That being said I think KM would have appreciated Mukiele Xhaka and Sadiki rather than Johnson Phillips and Cajuste.
