I'm coming to Portman Road Saturday 12:43 - Dec 15 with 1000 viewsWallingford_Boy

A rare trip these days due to commitments to my local non league team, but where is the pre match pub of choice these days?

I had a few down by the Waterfront earlier in the season after a game, but is that the pre match choice too?

Curve?
Greyhound?

Anywhere else?

Thanks all.

RIP Sir Bobby

Why are you coming? In your own words you don’t like this team!

You cheeky so and so!!

I said they are a tough team to like right now, doesn't mean I don't support them.

But thanks for your input.

Our pre-match pub is about a 20 minutes walk from the ground with a great selection of cask ales, we can always get served quickly and they provide a suitable lunchtime eats menu. In addition our table is always - well usually, reserved for us and it's not a rowdy or shouty pub, which befits our advancing years.
However, I'm sworn to secrecy over its name and location for fear it becomes too popular.
I also think that if the waterfront hostelries, the Greyhound or the Curve Bar are on your shortlist, you would be severely disappointed by our little gem.
There are some cracking pubs in Ipswich though, but if I was to name them all, by a process of elimination you would determine where we preside, so I'll say no more.

Arcade Street Tavern is where the cool kids drink pregame I believe.

HaHa fair enough.

Not a cask ale man, so probably not for me, I do like a bit of pre match atmosphere, but can also appreciate those that favour a quieter spot, some good beer and a natter about all things ITFC.

Sounds like your pub could be a symbol of peace.

You could try The Gambolling Boar, a fine establishment recently opened on the High Street in Great Glemham. A little way up the A12, but a very warm welcome awaits, and they do a lovely Duck Pie.

Dove is one of my fave pubs in Ipswich but it's 30 mins away. Closer to the ground but not as swamped on matchday, you could try Brewer's Arms or Jude's Tavern. Black Horse conveniently close but often rammed. If you want to bump into Simon Milton after, go to Arcade Tavern.
