When I played netball at a professional level (I'm lying - Suffolk County league 8, occasionally flirting with league 7, then getting relegated straight away) we couldn't wear gloves, as it is against the rules.
Catching a speedily flung netball on a December night on an outside hard court was a huge risk to digital safety. You could stub or bend back a finger, but you didn't realise it was injured until you got home to a centrally-heated house and thawed out.
