| Pompey fans on 19:01 - Jan 11 by MattinLondon | You sure about that? I’m pretty sure that the kop end at Pompey is probably smaller than the SBR stand in both size and capacity. If we wanted a kop end I’m sure that would have been relatively easy to do but Sheepy wanted to increase capacity more than anything else. |
It will all boil down to build dates and 'Rights of Light' legislation. From what I can gather, the Fratton End (the Kop to which this thread refers) was originally built in 1956, and demolished in the mid-1980s. The current Fratton End was built in the late 1990s, and is about the same size as the original 1956 Fratton End. Rights of Light require 20 years of uninterrupted enjoyment to accrue, so the 10-15 year hiatus of the stand wouldn't have allowed any affected houses to accrue such rights. On the other hand, with the original North Stand having stood for decades, any light enjoyed through the south-facing windows of the flats behind the stand would have been protected. As such, even with the 'reduced' design, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Club had to pay compensation to the owners in respect of any lost light brought about by the construction of the new stand. | |
