We may not be as freescoring as we were in 23/24 but we don't have to be - we are far more in control of games than in the last promotion campaign. It has become very noticable that we insist on playing the game at our own pace, we are not getting suckered into that kind tit for tat match which has been our undoing (which is what happened at home vs Charlton). All the changes to personel, formation and style have now bedded down, the players clearly know their jobs so when we make changes there is continuity of style. Azon is a great example of why our CF role is not a goal scoring striker - the movement and pressure he applies creates the space for the likes of Clarke. Philogene and Nunez to either run or pass into. More than that often Azon or Hirst will drop into a deeper role to defend from the front. I know a lot of fans have been calling out that we need a goal scoring striker - but that not is what our current system is setup for, and it's working, we are scoring 1.75 goals a game and conceding less than one per game. Take out those weird 3-0 and 3-1 matches against Charlton and Leicester and we would have only conceded 18 in 25 matches. For the last few home matches (I don't do away), it has always felt in our hands to lose, we are in control and if we need to step up we can. It's very different to how we have played for the last 3-4 years, and no doubt contributes to the slightly sedate atmosphere at times in the stadium as there is less panic. I think the biggest concern is complacency or loss of concentration costing us a goal in a tight game. This feeling of being in control is a very odd one for a long term Town fan, and is taking time to get used to, but I am pretty sure it is setting us up well for success this season and hopefully the PL next season.
