The reality is it has an empty schedule due to his ‘ownership’, but he is using that as an excuse to tear it to pieces (quite literally).

Apparently, it was designated as a living memorial to JFK. by Congress back in the day. So this would be the equivalent of tearing down the Washington Monument or Lincoln Memorial.
