So we know what we've got. The question is, can Hirst and Azon turn their failed chances into goals..
So some questions for those who know a bit about football data
We see the stats behind XG etc. But was is classed exactly as an expected goal, is it based on for example no defenders between the striker and the goal keeper?, does it take into consideration the angle of the shot? Would there be data available to show what would be classed as a bad miss compared to a good save... for example that Azon chance recently, don't think any other striker does anything different to what he did, yet the keeper pulled off a worldy... that i take it was an XG.
But what about the ones further back when mcateer for example drilled one across to azon, tough angle, defender next to him, he gets a touch, it hits side netting.. is that an XG or not really because it was a difficult chance.... what are the details behind XGs?

On a related note, surely we didn't really offer anywhere near what would have been a record sale fee for Azeez? If we did it makes a bit of a mockery of not being able to find a better striker than what we have. For that sort of fee and the time we have known we needed a striker there must have been options.
I still think we will have enough to go up so not too annoyed but it is disappointing. |  |

In very brief terms :
xG - when a shot is made, statistically what is the probability of scoring from that position.
xGOT - for the same shot, if it’s on target, and struck well, what is the probability
Big Chance - a clear-cut scoring opportunity where a player is reasonably expected to score, typically involving a one-on-one scenario or a shot from close range with little pressure (typically an xG>0.38)
This is very much paraphrasing, but should give you an idea.
In general, a goal with a very high xGOT that is saved indicates an outstanding save. This can be observed if you delve into the stats for individual goal attempts.
