| 10 Foods that belong in the bin on 19:38 - Feb 12 by OldFart71 | The only thing wrong with wagon wheels can apply to most things these days and that's half the size and twice the price. I love chocolate. But bars of Cadbury which you used to get for a quid are now about £4. They have messed about with wine gums and they don't taste as nice as they used to. Mars bars are about 2/3rds the size they used to be and those big ones you could get were stopped to prevent people getting fat. What's stopping those that want more from buying two or a packet of four. As a kid we had a little shop in the village that doubled up as a store and post office. I could get 8 chews for a penny, Things like gob stoppers, jamborie bags, flying saucers, imps, cola chunks, pineapple chunks, imps, sherbet dips, liquorice pipes, sweet cigarettes with a football card. They did a square of gum with a football card as well. All the sweets were in huge jars and you got a 1/4 lb. in a paper bag. Sometimes you ended up with a small bit of paper in your mouth when you got to the bottom of the bag as with things like sherbet lemons they became sticky and stuck to the bag. You couldn't beat fish and chips out of a newspaper with salt and vinegar either. Now you need a mortgage to get them. |
The jars were made of glass too. Sherbet lemons, pineapple chunks were the best. Chocolate toffee rolls were nice too. Always 1/4 lb Of the chewy sweets, fruit salads were as good as anything. Flying Saucers were nice and where I lived, jamboree bags were called Lucky Bags And with the above, that’s three of your five a day covered! Chocolate bars have been ruined by profiteering and in Cadburys case sale to that dreadful American company Kraft. | | | |
