In many ways I think it’d be the opposite. This team is getting stronger and the football club appears to be in a good place, even if a percentage of the supporters are not. Yes, we might lose a player or two but providing the core of the team stays together we will be better than this year. The idea of going up this season and having another big turnover of players followed by a season of struggle concerns me. But yes, I know all about the importance of PL money. I don’t think the championship will be necessarily stronger next year and if it is, the trick is for us to be even better. There are experts on here that say it’s weak this season. I don’t think it is. None of the parachute clubs have covered themselves in glory but overall it’s been highly competitive and M’boro, Coventry and Millwall particularly impressive (except when Coventry were trampled on by us). They could well be the three to go up and if they do, they’ll deserve it. If we succeed we’ll have earned it but ultimately I’m quite relaxed about it, especially after seeing that post about us getting the runaround by Reading in that horror season of 2018/19. In the meantime, as the manager suggests, ignore the others and just concentrate on us.

Continuity of squad and lower turnover would be a good thing I think, more likely if we remain in this league than go up I would say. If we can keep fairly settled then we would be an even stronger force next season. As for certain teams that might drop from the Prem and be in the mix - I don't think they would find things so easy. Too many players will want away, they will have high turnover even if money isn't an issue. Whatever's left will have a lot of adapting to do. So I don't fear a West Ham or a Wolves as much as some might do. I'm never going to go as far as to say I don't want promotion - what's the point in all this if we aren't looking to compete with the best. I'm just feeling semi-relaxed about the prospect it might not happen. Maybe it's just expectations management. I do appreciate the importance of not getting stuck in the Championship long term like after the 2000s relegation. That can easily lead to stagnation.
