| We just haven't had THAT game this season! 10:16 - Mar 11 with 524 views | BlacknGoldnBlue | Back in 1991-92 season we went to Southend's Roots Hall on April 4th and as Neil Thompson cut inside and unleased a shot that secured a 2-1 away victory we knew we would go on to gain promotion. Then in 1999-2000 on 29th April, we went to the Valley, Charlton! We beat the leaders and eventual champions comprehensively 3-1 and even though we knew we'd be facing the playoffs in which we'd lost the last 3 seasons, we knew we'd go onto Wembley and win. More recently, 1st April 2024, Southampton visited Portman Road for a midweek game. We all know how Sarmiento slipped and then prodded home in the 90th minute, and at that point we all knew we'd go on to gain promotion. We haven't had one of those games yet. The last two results, neither of which was a defeat, have left us feeling like we won't gain promotion! Time will tell but with some of the big games ahead against other promotion contenders and local rivels there still is a chance for one of those games to get etched into Ipswich History as being one of those games! We need the players to show the effort, commitment and skill that their price tag dictates and we know they can deliver. We need KM to make the right selections but more importantly, instil the belief that eliminates the slow, ponderous, predictable displays we've seen in first halves recently. We, as fans, need to deliver the noise and support. Keep the negativity and criticisms to the pages of TWTD and lift the players with positivity and noise. We are not out of it! We can still have THAT game... | |

(I’m too young to remember ‘92…) Charlton was a cracking day out but more euphoria at taking it to the final day than being confident of promotion. IIRC, Man City had won a tough game the night before live on Sky and wildly celebrated at the end, assumption being it was effectively a promotion clincher. Us winning put that on ice and left them with what appeared to be a tricky fixture at Blackburn, but alas they won with relative ease (I say alas but then we got 5-3 and Wembley so yay) Euphoria of Southampton meanwhile lasted all of a few days before a certain Chilean international brought us back down to earth. Tbh, I think I remained convinced we would get pipped up until QPR surprisingly thrashed Leeds on that Friday night - and even then Coventry was nerve shredding (Hull less so and probably the most enjoyable non-win in recent memory) up until the whistle. I think I knew we were there from then though! | |
