Why I wouldn’t be a good football manager or owner 07:19 - Mar 16 with 529 viewsringwoodblue

I’m too emotional and sentimental about established players. At the time, letting Morsy and Chappers go was the wrong decision in my eyes. However, watching Matusiwa for 36 games and seeing glimpses of Morsy playing for Brizzle has made me realise that Azor is a massive upgrade and it was the best decision to let Sammie move on.

Likewise with Chappers. Seeing him play for Pompey was very sad for a bit but I quickly realised that he’s not the player he was and Nunez and Mehmeti have been an upgrade on him.

If we do get promoted, most of the team will need updating again apart from Davis, DoS, Matusiwa Clarke and Philogene so it will be sad not to see players like Walton and Burns play for us again but they won’t cut it in the PL if we are serious about staying up this time.

The move to the Middle East was perfect for Sam at his stage of career. It’s one of those things it didn’t work out. But it would have been wrong to bring him back. He made a good go of the PL last year, but you could see by the end of it he was at the end of his career.

Matusiwa is a different level and actually could play Premier League. I think Furlong could just about along with Walton who while isn’t the best certainly isn’t the worst. The other players are Nunez and O’Shea, who would be fine. Agree with you on the rest.

We would need a top end midfielder, a better CH than Kipre or Greaves and a good centre forward - the spine of the team.

I wouldn’t make a good owner or football manager either. Not a clue. I’m not emotional about players any more than I was about moving people on (including myself) in my working life.

I’d just be rubbish at the job. No I will leave that to experts like those that invade this forum after a loss or a draw.

Here's the wider take.

It evidences what KM (and the team) is about - creating a team, ethos, identity and way of playing that brings the best out of players. There's a reason why players such as Chappers, Burns, Morsy, Luongo and even others like Harness, Edwards, Ladapo - have all played their best football under KM.

He's a very, very good coach and manager.
