The curious case of Jens Cajuste 10:33 - Mar 16 with 4798 viewsSwansea_Blue

What happened there? Egeli is getting a lot of attention because he’s playing, yet Cajuste’s fall from grace is the bigger story imo. How can someone who at times looked a Rolls Roycebof a player in the PL look so lost in the league below?

We’re committed to buy if we go up aren’t we? What do we do with him then. Take a hit and move on at any loss?

The big question in the summer was would his body be up to the rigours of championship football.

The answer is clearly not.

He’ll swan off to the Middle East/America in the summer & see out his career there.

I think you're right - this was a massive opportunity for him, could have been one of the best midfielders in the league with his ability- sadly, he physically isn't upto the challenge.

I believe he failed a medical at Brentford before he signed for us last season?

I’ve been very critical of him and couldn’t understand the furore over him last summer.

Basic midfielder who offers very little.

There were quite a few on here last season declaring he’d be an absolute ‘cheat code’ at this level and getting quite snotty with anyone who dared to suggest otherwise.

He had his moments last season yet still couldn’t find anyone who wanted him in the summer. I imagine his value has dropped through the floor now and he’ll probably end up in Serie B or the Swedish league for next to nothing.

It used to great on here when people let me say whatever I wanted and giggled along - (Rough translation of post from un-named TWTD contributor, 2026)

That feels exceptionally harsh.

If anything he has been more of a luxury player. I certainly don't think he's basic. Fantastic ability but just doesn't have the off the ball engine and desire to get stuck in and do the hard running. It's weird because a few years ago he was seen as a barnstorming, but tackling midfielder.

To me has the hallmarks of someone whose playing with an issue. I do wonder if the knee really holds him back.

Actually think he remains an excellent option off the bench.

In hindsight it makes our chasing of him, and delight at landing him, seem a bit naive. Ashton was positively bouncing when we landed him. Although a lot of us fans were too in fairness.

He looks pure class in moments - that’s what coloured my view. He’s certainly not up to the physicality of the games and schedule. It says a lot when Taylor is a better option (although he gets a bad rap at times and has improved).

Half my issue comes from the fact we chased Hackney for a large chunk of the summer, were happy to see Cajuste swam off elsewhere and then panicked when we didn’t get Hackney and probably someone else and then resorted back to Cajuste.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a half decent player, but he just doesn’t work in this team. He falls in that category for me of what type of midfielder is he? He’s not the Luongo type who can sit there and over whilst Davis marauds forward, and he’s not a 10 who can make things click. He seems to get a nose bleed once he hits the 18 yard box and all of his movements speed up because he doesn’t quite know what to do with the ball.

It’s damning he’s found himself benched most weeks for Taylor - who whilst I think is okay - couldn’t get in the side ahead of Morsy and Luongo 2 years ago in this division.

Hopefully it was an ‘option’ rather than ‘mandatory’ purchase as I would be disappointed to spend a chunk of money on Cajuste if we go up.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…
