Throughout the 90 minutes it was clear we were the 'better' team, better technical players, better shape and patterns. We just consistently don't take our chances and when games are close, we seem to be seriously mentally fragile. Whatever happens we are going to run boro/ millwall close, I just fear we don't have the killer instinct we are going to need.

| I want to believe we will get autos, but everything I see tells me we aren't ... on 09:48 - Mar 23 by itfcsuth | I think it's been a story of the season a little bit. We've missed big chances throughout the season, at times our final decision making has been poor, and we do still feel a little bit fragile without giving away masses of chances. I think it comes back to the fact, we aren't the finished article by any stretch yet, but we have put ourselves in such a good position without being perfect. Ultimately we will finish where we deserve to finish, for me it's just one game at a time right now. |
This post is spot on. As of now, we still don’t ‘feel’ right as a team. Whether it’s the loathing of the players and distrust of the manager by so many (see TWTD two days after anything less than a perfect performance) or that the side just doesn’t look settled in the way it was two years ago, I’m not sure. Combination maybe. The stats say we are the second highest scorers. Home form is second, away 9th, but notably since Boxing Day away results have been 8 played, 4 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws. Not brilliant, not catastrophic. The defeats we deservedly lost. Stoke draw was a shambles that we still should have won. We are doing ok and in the mix, but somehow it feels all a bit rigid and laboured. Just a feeling because the reality is at times we are playing lovely football. There’s nothing wrong with the quality of the players overall. Likeable characters too. Even the derided Hirst has scored 9 at a rate of about 1 in 3 which is ok. Azon has improved too. But the team doesn’t truly fulfil or reflect the quality of the players. It feels too soon. I accept that in today’s world results are demanded instantly, patience is old hat. In the bin. It’s how it is in 2026. But regardless teams with real human beings take differing times to form. It’s rarely done instantly in sport any more than in real life. Sunderland being the exception not the rule. In summary it all feels too soon. I’ve a feeling we will fall short. If we do and the body of this team is retained next season, I think we will be collectively a lot stronger as Leeds were last season.
