I'm not a Christian and I do, at times, find the proselytising by organised religions, frankly, annoying but I also feel sorry for committed Christians who see the congregation empty out of the church at ten on a Sunday morning because of the need to get a good seat in the pub by eleven fifteen to watch the midday kick-off on Sky. I suppose I am very old fashioned now in my longing for a time when people worked hard for five days a week, went shopping on Saturday morning, pub at lunchtime, scoot off to Portman Road just after closing time, back to the pub after the game, seek out a party after the next closing time, sleep it all off on Sunday...
