| Lovely news from Hungary on 09:49 - Apr 13 by Guthrum | Indeed. Magyar's slightly more pro-EU stance (or at least wanting to get on with them a bit better) by no means makes him some kind of liberal. His beef with Orban has always been more about corruption and hypocrisy than ideology. |
This from Wikipedia on Magyar's reaction to the LGBT+ march ban Péter Magyar, leader of the largest opposition party Tisza Party, said that the government did this to divert attention from millions of Hungarians living in severe living crisis, and that if they get elected, they will protect the right of assembly. Many have criticized Magyar for not speaking up more firmly. Magyar said that he will not attend, but he called upon the police to protect the Hungarian people even if it means standing up against the arbitrariness of power

| That’s literally how MAGA are spinning it! on 09:01 - Apr 13 by Pinewoodblue | Trump made the difference. Orban thought he had made it impossible to change the constitution when he changed it so that any future changes required a two thirds majority.. Vance spent three days in Hungary with constant television coverage promising financial support but only if Orban was re-elected. Blatant outside interference helped to ensure anyone uncertain made their vote count. It resulted in the highest ever turnout. How our next election turns out is still difficult to judge. If the electorate here feel it is time for a chsnge it isn’t going to help Labour. |
It could help Labour if it means the party becomes less centralising and more ambitious in their social policies. That would be in tune with the changing mood in this state and further afield.

| Lovely news from Hungary on 12:40 - Apr 14 with 48 views | DJR | It is possible that Netanyahu could lose a country he can visit with impunity. "Hungarian prime minister-elect Peter Magyar pledged on Monday to return Budapest to being a member of the International Criminal Court, after outgoing leader Viktor Orban quit the body last year in support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Holding his first news conference following his election win a day earlier, Magyar said he would move to return Hungary to being an ICC member, but stopped short of expressing any opinion about the court’s arrest warrant against Netanyahu on allegations of war crimes in Gaza." Orban’s withdrawal from the ICC “is a process we cannot stop, however we are going to relaunch Hungary’s accession to the International Criminal Court,” Magyar said in response to a question from a reporter on Monday. “I think it’s in the interest of the international community and Hungary for us to be there,” the incoming leader added. Orban pulled Hungary out of the court last year after its arrest warrant against Netanyahu, arguing that it had become a “political court.” He announced the move as he welcomed the Israeli prime minister for a visit to Budapest, openly defying Hungary’s legal obligation to arrest him as a party to the ICC. Magyar’s decision could mean Netanyahu would not be able to visit Budapest again due to fears of arrest. However, a number of other countries have indicated they would not arrest Netanyahu were he to visit, despite maintaining their memberships in the ICC." | | | |
