Three and a bit years ago we were trouncing Morecambe 4-0 at Portman Road. While we’re hopefully preparing for another tilt at the Premier League they’re being relegated from the National League. How times change

They had never been relegated in their entire history, and now have had three relegations in four seasons, yikes.

Between the 1961/62 and 2021/22 seasons, we were promoted three times. We could now be promoted three times in four seasons.

And we had never won promotion as division runners-up until 2023. We could soon make it a hat-trick.

The big difference is that this season, automatic promotion has been seen as an expectation by many & promotion by any means as a minimum requirement for McKenna to keep his job, so it all feels a little underwhelming. " years ago, it was totally unexpected by me so it was like realising an impossible dream when it was suddenly within our grasp.
I think our season in the PL has also dimmed the allure of promotion to many of our fans. Possibly, we won't ne able to cope again & losing every week does become rather tedious.

Very fair points. I think the factors you mention have definitely contributed to the strange atmosphere this season. But it's amazing how a bit of success can make people forget how things used to be.

My feeling is the club is bigger than the premier league or modern football hype..if we get back up it secures the future of the club for a bit longer in the medium term.

It might sound strange, but we probably need a few dullish seasons really. Finishing 17th would be great.

I'd love to see us back in Europe at some point.
