It’s not six days though. Robsons team played 66 games in the season they won the UEFA cup, beat the league champions (Villa) 3 times. There wasn’t the luxury of six subs back then to bring on. The dynamics changed yesterday, Southampton went so close to an FA Cup final appearance and then suffered the late in the game kick in the nuts that a top Premier League side an deliver, they will be more knackered than us. They will also be desperate to win big as Middlesborough now have a better goal difference and three points in the bag rather than to play for in the penultimate game.
So two draws would do it for us now whatever Southampton got out of their other game...unless Middlesborough go even better than 5-1 in their last game, and that's why I see them as the bigger threat for the final automatic promotion place. A win at St Mary's would do the job for us and the only two changes I can suggest are Hirst starting rather than Azon plus Davis back in if the hamstring is less doubtful now. |  |
