Maybe I’m being ruthless, but I think we need 13 new signings, 8 new starters with a few being U21 to satisfy the 25 man squad rules. Sunderland made 14 last summer for context.

Philogene (Not sure it’s ever quite clicked on the left. Think we need a different profile to the out-and-out flair of Philo/Clarke/Mehmeti)
Humphreys (Needs to find a home, lower Champ presumably)
Szmodics (Clearly destined for an exit)
Muric (Presumably heading to Serie A)
Harry Clarke (I think he will want to settle somewhere)
Palmer (Great Champ goalie who deserves to be playing)

I'm not sure one has anything to do with the other?
I think we probably need a different profile of LW/L10 so one of Philo/ Clarke would need to go in that instance.
Wes would presumably be very happy to play second fiddle if he re-signed and in this instance we would have the space to buy another RW to start. | | | |

GOALKEEPERS
New signing required. Keep Walton as Palmer will want to leave for first team football. I suppose Button made be an adequate third choice. Muric has a sell on clause in his loan contract?
RIGHT BACKS
New signing required. Keep Furlong as back up.
LEFT BACKS
I quite liked Townsend from what I saw of him, but not sure about the impact of his injury. Davis is a poor man's Alexander-Arnold; strong going forward but can be found out defensively. New signing required.
CENTRE BACKS
O'Shea is only guaranteed starter. Need a new left sided CB. Greaves and Kipre fine as back ups. Baggott loaned out.
CENTRAL MIDFIELD
Hopefully Matusiwa's dip in form was due to him coming back too soon from injury to help him over the line. Back up/competition required for his position. Two new left sided CMs needed at very least. Taylor to be kept as back up. Cajuste and Neil's loans terminated. Is it time to sell Humphreys?
RIGHT WING
New signing required. Would love to see Burns stay but expect him to go with McAteer taking on the back up role, and Johnson kept as a versatility player with defensive RW being his preferred role. Egeli to be loaned out. Ogbene sold.
LEFT WING
The most difficult one as I don't think either Philogene or Clarke are good enough to start on the Premier League so may be the case of choosing one and selling the other to make room for a new signing.
TEN POSITION
New signing required. Sell Mehmeti and keep Nunez as back up but we really need him to pick up his performances. Akpom will probably be loaned out if we have to sign him, perhaps back to the Dutch league. Szmodics sold.
STRIKER
Hirst showed signs yesterday of his 2023/24 form. If it can be sustained he'll be a sustainable third choice. Azon returns to Como. Two new signings required. | |
