| WSL response to my complaint about scheduling 19:51 - May 5 with 1000 views | Mark | I recently wrote to the WSL to complain about men's and women's matches clashing, for example... Wed 22nd April 19:00 Ipswich Women v Sheffield Utd Women (in Colchester) 19:45 Charlton v Ipswich (also Sheffield Utd v Blackburn) Sat 2nd May 12:30 Ipswich v QPR 15:00 Ipswich Women v Sunderland (in Colchester) They replied... Thank you for contacting the league regarding the scheduling of Ipswich Town Women's fixtures. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and your passion for the club during such a critical period of the season. We understand your frustration regarding the overlap between the women’s and men’s team matches. It is clear that these scheduling conflicts have placed you in a difficult position, forcing a choice between supporting the two teams, and we recognise the disappointment of missing crucial fixtures. Please be assured that the process of fixing match dates and kick-off times involves a variety of complex factors. These include stadium availability, the requirements of our broadcast partners, and coordination between the competing clubs. For example, clubs must declare any events that could affect the smooth operation of a match day, and the league reserves the right to amend fixtures to satisfy broadcasting needs. While our regulations allow clubs to mutually agree on specific kick-off times within available dates, the final approval rests with the Competition Secretary to ensure the overall interests of the league are met. Your comments regarding the impact of these overlaps on the fan experience are noted. Feedback from dedicated supporters is vital as we continue to manage and evolve the professional game. Thank you again for your continued support of the Barclays Women’s Super League 2. [Post edited 5 May 19:55]

It was about what I expected. It sounds like they will continue to schedule the matches when the men play, which I still think is ridiculous when teams only play 11 home league matches a season. It will slow the growth of the game.

I think there was a third example, as when all attention was understandably on Ipswich v Norwich at 12:00 on Sunday 5th October, Sheffield United Women played Ipswich Women at 13:00 the same day.

No argument from me there. Too much trouble for them I expect. Maybe they'll get their act together for next season, though I certainly wouldn't be holding my breath.
