I’d be less worried about the prosecution part if it was me, but you do you

I remember a few years ago at Quinta de Largo golf course in Portugal, a few lads in the evenings used to go into a lake to get golf balls, there was a sign similar to that but at 8 or 9 in the evening they did not worry too much, seemed ridicules as golfers at an exclusive golf course would not be diving down to get their miss-place balls back. several villas on the golf complex had helipads so would not worry about a lost golf ball. Also, as a non golfer we were not meant to be walking around the golf course in the evening either. But I'm a rebel so balls to them.

The cruelest punishment of all. I expect Southampton are glad that particular authority wasn't sitting in judgement :)

There was a court case years ago involving 4 chancers who sneaked into the Belfry at dusk, 2 of them with frogman gear & retrieved several hundred balls from the lake in front of the 18th green. They argued that the balls had been abandoned by their previous owner (almost certainly correct) although they had no right to be on the premises. They were found guilty of theft, but conditionally discharged.
