Hydration breaks (pt. 76) 20:33 - Jun 15 with 540 viewsZx1988

One thought I've had, is that the breaks may benefit the more adaptable and better coached sides. If they've got their tactical setup wrong, they only have to hold out for 22.5mins until they can have a proper tactical reset.

Notwithstanding the fact that they're a joke anyway, I'd force the teams to take them in the middle of their half, away from the benches, so that they can't benefit from any mid-half coaching.

Tricky to do. The kit man with the bottles will have instructions. Or labels stuck to bottles etc etc

Whichever way it’s done, why have they decided to leave the clock running? Would be far simpler to know it’s fully accounted for by stopping and starting it again afterwards.

Yeah, that's just stupid.

I suppose that the powers that be are so anti having a rugby-style game clock, that they won't do anything that could be seen as the thin end of that particular wedge.

But then they just added 5 mins on at the end… which supposedly includes the hydration break, goal celebrations, substitutions etc? Doesn’t compute…

Yep- 5 at the end, when there has been a 3 minute break, is bizarre. Since when did we ever see only 2 minutes added on with multiple subs and a goal?

Plus any other stops and starts that there may be for free kicks, cards being issued etc. I’m sure the hydration breaks aren’t being added on in their entirety.
