I honestly believe that is the appeal. Both of these players moved to the French league for modest transfer fees before becoming regulars and inflating their transfer fees tenfold. If we had a proper scouting network, such players could be acquired for a fraction of the price that's being kicked around by the media.

I'm still waiting for any indication that someone in the organization can spot talent.

It's a balance you need to strike as you need players good enough to make a big contribution in the short term. From watching a few clips on Youtube, even Emersonn doesn't look refined or ready enough to be a regular PL player at this stage. Look at Egeli too. It's ok signing a couple that you have time to develop or send out on loan but the bulk of our signings this summer need to be players you can hang your hat on.
