| Pokemon Cards 21:20 - Jun 30 with 1131 views | J2BLUE | Anyone collect them back in the day? I did, about 25 years ago, at school. Been watching some Youtube videos of people opening old packs etc. Pure nostalgia. Good times. | | | | |
| Pokemon Cards on 21:30 - Jun 30 with 1075 views | squiz | Yeah I was the same. Remember trying to get a complete set with my brother. Fast forward to today and my sons got quite into it, which has dragged me back. It's fun opening packs with him, but the hobby is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Scalpers everywhere and no stock. There were over 400 people queuing at some Costco's around the country last week. Some camping out overnight to buy stuff. It's got to the point where I struggle to justify giving my son sealed boxes as they double or triple in value in weeks. | | | |

Yep - I’ve taught my lad to flip / scalp. Mad what some even packs go for. Literally double your money if you find them in shops. Good fun which pays for his fishing stuff tbh

My own son has got into the hobby, started with seeing them for sale at a car boot, theres many sellers at them with the graded cards in covers for sale. He had some from holiday years ago and is now getting more into it. I think its interesting in teaching him about money too. This story about a young Swiss lady selling here cards for millions passed under mine and Grandads eyes, an interesting time for the cards for sure. https://www.dailymail.com/news [Post edited 30 Jun 22:38]

The scalping happens over here, too. It’s insane. People lining up hours before store opens, then all steaming in and clearing the shelves.

| Pokemon Cards on 05:32 - Jul 1 with 740 views | Benters | True story. I was in my local spoons the other month and a chap on a neighbouring table started banging on to me about these cards,I did say to him it wasn’t really my thing but he just carried on talking about there value. He was drinking two bottles of Japanese bottled beer at once with two glasses rammed full of ice. He got a text come through he jumps up asks me to watch his beer and bags, runs out of the spoons and I mean full pelt runs out the door to the shop that sells vintage cards,he’d obviously got the heads up that they had a certain card he needed 😎. There’s a couple of shops in Colchester that sells those cards and they are always busy. | |

My 7 year old has really got into it, mad how these things keep coming around again! Are you aware of the scanning apps you can get? You scan a card and it tells you its approx value. Useful at car boots and pokemon shops to make sure the value is as they say (most people seem legit to be honest). Useful to value your own collection or find a random rare, high valued one. She got a standard pack the other day, nothing special, we scanned them just for interest most were worth just a few p then one popped up worth over £450, didn't look anything special! | Pokemon Cards on 09:47 - Jul 1 with 570 views | Bluebert | My 10 year old just found his old cards from 2022, had a quick look through and sold one on eBay for over £300. Sold in under a day and plenty of interest! Unbelievable what people will pay for them. Needless to say we’re checking the rest!!

That's crazy. Good find though! I hope you've got it stored somewhere safely (or sold it already). Sleeve and a top loader at the least. You can find rare cards like that in any pack which I suppose is part of the appeal for some. It's essentially gambling though which I hope isn't doing too much damage to my sons brain! I haven't got the app, but do look up the value when he gets something half decent. Not that he's ever sold something, he just wants to put them in his binder. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

haha yep put it straight into an individual sleeve. I hadn't thought of it as gambling, more like an investment, but i guess you never know what cards you get so from that point of view it is! Sounds like my daughter, just content to put them in a folder. Occasionally swaps the duplicates but I try and make sure she avoids swapping any others unless I've scanned them first to make sure nothing valuable being given away! Older kids can be known to prey on younger one's with high value cards they may not be aware of, am sure you're aware of that.
| Pokemon Cards on 16:45 - Jul 1 with 357 views | ITFCson | Not Pokemon, but 6 months ago I got into football cards. I was participating in breaks on Whatnot app. It was good fun while it lasted but in the main its pure gambling, and like others have said the hobby is full of scalpers. I have kicked the habit now as it got too expensive, but I still have some nice high end cards to sell, including a 1/1 Salah card that is currently on ebay which should fetch 4 figures. | | | |
