Certainly the vast majority were not expecting this extra technology to be used in this way. Is it tested? Reliable?

It doesn't exactly engender confidence in the decision when the graphic they put up is clearly just that, a graphic, it isn't actually depicting the sound waves or whatever it is the technology is picking up, as it showed nothing when it then went on to make solid contact with the head of the Portugal defender.

Anyone who follows cricket knows how fallible this sort of technology can be, but at least with cricket they show the actual soundwaves, you can see when it hits a bat, then pad, and then maybe into the keepers glove, FIFA on the other hand are basically just saying "take our word for it".
