It would have been the 93rd birthday today of one of our greatest fans.... 21:02 - Jul 12 with 721 viewsThe_Major

Today is Brian Cant's Birthday. One of THE great voices of our childhood. I feel so lucky to be around when people like him brought those shows to life.

That's odd, the Bluesky post hasn't embedded.

Oh well, it was Brian Cant, anyway.

Always thought a statue in town Center, maybe Pugh, Pugh et al, would be a great thing. You can see middle age footy fans visiting the town queuing up for pic! His voice defines the childhoods of the late 1960’s and right through the 70’s.

My dad was the year above him, although to be fair he can't remember much about anything!

Believe the family lived in Lancing Avenue, off Kingsgate Drive - he even apparently and a few training sessions with the ITFC youth team in the late 1940s! I could have sworn I've seen a YT video of him wearing ITFC paraphernalia on Play Away, but I'm blowed if I can find it.

The one children's entertainer I do remember seeing on the TV doing Town related stuff back in the day, is a now deceased bearded Australian painter when he did his Saturday evening show going round schools (shudder) and pitched up at Copleston circa 1979. The show started with him in goal in front of the North Stand whilst people took penalties against him - and to compound matters he called the manager ROBBIE Robson.

He deffo used to reference ITFC in Play Away! He also turned out for a showbiz 11 down here, where Ray & Dave Davis were playing.
