| Apologies if known - ref for tomorrow though: 14:12 - Jul 14 with 731 views | nrb1985 | https://www.standard.co.uk/spo We have a MLS ref...with MLS assistants. Can you ever have imagined a two bob ref taking charge of an England Argentina game in the past...last we time we had Collina 2002 ffs. You can see what's coming a mile off can't you? I will be astonished if we end up with 11 v 11 tomorrow. Infantino already wnking himself silly over Messi in the final no doubt. Fck off FIFA, Fck off Trump and Fck off Messi. COME ON ENGLAND. | | | | |

No it’s not, he’s a MLS ref mate. This game should always have the top ref available, which is why we got Collina in 2002. It is an enormous grudge match.

Who would you have referee it, then? Remember, you cannot pick any English, Argentinian, French, or Spanish officials. Maybe I'd have gone with Danny Makkelie from the Netherlands, but that's only on the basis that I know his name rather than knowing if he's any good. Given he referees in the Eredivisie, I'd assume your 'two bob' comment would also apply?

A lot of the criticism of referees simply seems to be on the lines of 'I've never heard of him, so he must be rubbish'. I can't see how the quality of a league has any bearing on how good a referee is at knowledge and enforcement of the laws of the game.

I'll reserve judgement until he has refereed the game. We had an Australian referee against Mexico. The Australian A-League is a lesser league with far fewer high profile players than the MSL.

The ref in the Mexico game was Iranian not Australian. Same guy that denied Mbappe a penalty for initiating contact in the group stage and didn’t capitulate when he was sent to the screen to think about his decision. Top ref.
