Cheslea and 7 year contracts 10:15 - Jul 20 with 745 viewsFrimleyBlue

I thought theyd changed the rules on the max number of years you can offer on a contract. Has that rule been reversed?

No, think you can still only amortise the transfer over a maximum of 5 years.

I thought that, but Sky Sports reporting it's a 6 year deal plus option for a 7th for Rogers

Clubs are free to offer whatever contract length they like but can’t amortise over more than five years.

You can only spread the transfer fee over 5 years but the player contract can be as long as the club / player wants

So previously (over simplified example sorry) if a player cost £100m on a 10 year contract, financially they spread that over 10 years, ie £10m per year.
That changed this season to 5 years max for the financial side of it.
So now clubs can still sign a player on a 10 year contract but can only spread cost over 5 years, so in my example £20m per year
