| Have we tied Kings Scholar Tudor Mendel down to a long term contract? 22:42 - Jul 24 with 1292 views | unstableblue | Saw him on the ITFCAcadmey socials taking about his goals in Slovakia. Is he our best prospect to transition to the first team? And is there any danger he gets taken to a larger team? I saw Newcastle just poached our promising U15/16 player who’d played for the U18s. | |

It the reality is he'll be 22 in Jan and he hasn't played any men's football of significance. The vast majority of players who will play at a high level have played a year or twos men's football by his age. He should really have been out playing last season. He's well behind say a Cam Humphreys honestly who still stood out in the youths in-between loans. My hope is Tudor Mendel is a late bloomer as has some good qualities. But Fatawu is 9 months older and been playing proper football for years. Egeli is 18 months younger and miles ahead breaking records in International youth categories and scoring goals in the champ and the danish top flight. The danger isnt about him getting taken by a big team. It's about him getting a loan for a L1/L2 team. This is a big season for him or he will likely be released at the end of it allowed to join another club. He needs to play somewhere.

Thanks NR Shows how little I’d looked into. I thought he was 18! Yes at 21 heading to 22, it’s hardly larger club’s youth set-up going to be for him. He does seem to do well at the level he’s playing. But as you suggest he really needs to transition up. And he seems a long way from our first team. Definitely a loan needed.

Hope he goes somewhere and knocks it out the park. I'm.sure they are working hard to get him the right move. Our u21s did fantastic last season but we have to remember the bigger clubs have all their best u21s playing on loan in the prem, champ and L1 football or top flight football abroad. We don't have that many out on loan because we are playing catch up in quality.terms. Fingers crossed for TM

If he goes to League One or League Two, it's realistically more about being able to secure a transfer fee for him in January. It does baffle me though, because he always looks a good player - but then again, that is up against 18, 19 and 20 year olds - he's 21 - so it's all relative. Perhaps when he gets chances to train with the first team, he doesn't impress. We just don't get to see that.

Not only are we playing catch-up, but a bit over three years ago (when Mendel would have been about 18), the Academy was looking to produce players for a L1 team. In that time, the level has suddenly leapt to Champ and Prem, a different class altogether. A generation of Youths is going to be left behind while still developing.
