Went to a Cheltenham Town game in the immediate aftermath of Hillsborough and there was a half time blanket collection.
Ref found a 50p on the touchline 5 minutes into the second half and asked for a PA announcement that, "if any further coins are thrown then the match will be abandoned", followed by much booing and chanting about the blanket collection. | |

Not only did coin throwing into the blanket NOT get you arrested, but it exposed you to the far greater peril of being struck multiple time on the head, if, like me as a kid, you always stood by the wall.
If the coin fell short it posed a good moral dilemma for the assembled youth as to whether to pick it up and complete its journey to the blanket - or not! | |
