| Some positives… 23:01 - Jul 29 with 548 views | ThatMuhrenCross | I mean, it’s a pre-season game, so really it’s all positive getting minutes in the legs, but one or two things I noticed: - Fatawu - looked really sharp and lively. Good to see him going down the outside as well as cutting in. That’ll make him unpredictable, and as he gets used to the role, I think we’ll really get the best out of him. - Humphreys - not sure how much of a future he has here, but got to say, he probably looked our most accomplished player on the ball and seemed to dictate the play while he was on the pitch. Wouldn’t rule him out. - Van Oevelen - unlikely we’ll see much of him this season, but very confident and composed on the ball. Not really tested apart from their second goal. - Nuñez - I like him in the deeper role. Looks decent on the ball there and more natural to him than the attacking role McKenna had him in. Can see O’Neil using him there more than in the 10. - Mehmeti - Didn’t see loads of him, but showed some sharp moments playing in the 10. Will be a useful back-up. - Mthunzi - first I’ve seen of him but he looks very tidy on the ball and unfazed by men’s football. Looking forward to seeing what else he can do. I will just caveat this by saying there were a lot of rusty performances in there. Early days, so I’m not too worried, but seeing Davis, Greaves and Kipre repeatedly get caught in possession must have highlighted the need for more defensive recruits for O’Neil. Definitely need a few more in the door before the start of the season. | |

From a performance perspective, only Fatawu could you say yes, he has real talent, you can back him to play Premier League football. From a fitness perspective, was a really good tempo to the game from both sides. Still none the wiser as to how a GON side wants to look.

He looked much sharper than Furlong for example. Equally agree on the slight negatives. Leif/ Greaves/ Dara struggled at points in the first half and we got the full Kipre/ Johnson experience. Both looked way off it when they came on.

Yeah for me, Kipre will be some way down the pecking order in terms of starting players by the start of the season, and I feel as though Johnson could actually leave. I'm trying to figure out what O'Neill's plan is for the full backs. He seems to have them tucking in quite a lot, which is interesting. May suit Clarke better than Furlong. That said, I'd be concerned if Harry Clarke was starting games in the Premier League...
