Life isn't perfect. Let's get out of FIFA because it's always been corrupt. Even before Infantino. We don't need FIFA. Start again. I'm sorry but I don't care about the feelings of smaller footballing nations when they're just being used as pawns to keep FIFA in the hot seat skimming off billions.
Even if a world cup are cancelled whilst they're reorganising... who cares? Why are we giving world cups to Qatar, USA and Saudi who don't have any real feeling or history with football. We know why.
Bring the new World Cup back to Europe and South America where it grew up with the people and their love for the game. Strip it back to how it was with less commercialisation and no corruption. |
I'm worried about affecting change. You don't achieve that by alienating a whole bunch of countries in a structure where the Gambia's vote is the same as Germany. A good number of these associations have real financial challenges, so saying they're all corrupt and threatening to walk away is not going to win them over.
South America are not going to join Europe in this; Argentina is already backing Infantino. (That's not surprising, especially given they face charges. Watch out for these to be quietly diminished/dropped...) |  |

The US will get leaned on by Infantino's best friend in the White House and that will see the CONCACAF drop its opposition. UEFA is essentially alone. |
You're completely over-estimating FIFA. They're not some all- powerful country with a big army and lots of bombs. What are they going to do... threaten us with what? They need European footballing nations and Argentina/ Brazil.
They provide all the quality - and most importantly - money

The immediate reaction needed to have started years ago and should have been about building coalitions to prevent this even being an option. None of this is unexpected, they've been doing this in plain sight for at least a decade. It's too late now. |

So far that new organisation looks like it would consist of England, Wales, Germany, Croatia, Romania, Greece, Albania, Serbia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Jordan and Sierra Leone. Perhaps England could even win a tournament among these teams occasionally.
Argentina will not leave FIFA. Brazil have the Women's World Cup in 2027 so will probably stay quiet at least for now.
A threat is only a threat if you're prepared to carry it out. UEFA will not get enough votes in November so let's hope they have the cojones. | |

Indeed, of FIFA's myriad of competitions, only the World Cup matters & Infantino seems hell-bent on ruining that, with the next finals going to involve 48 or, more probably, 64 teams. So, the European teams don't play in the 2030 World Cup but play their own version of the Euros, with some American, African & Asian countries being invited or qualifying. What's not to like? |  |

I don't know if an outright ban would be possible but they could use scheduling to force players to pick between UEFA clubs (which pay them more) or their country.
If clubs did not have to release players for the African Cup of Nations, for example, that tournament would be hugely diminished. | |

Surely that would never work? For starters, players with mixed family histories might simply opt to play for non-Uefa nations over Uefa ones, if they had that choice, which would diminish the quality of the revamped Uefa tournaments. [Post edited 7 Aug 15:14]

Several people on here are advocating for UEFA leaving FIFA. If that were to happen, then those choices are exactly the consequence.
I would say the power is with the European clubs who pay players the most.
If a diminished FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia (for example) gets moved to the European winter, why should UEFA and UEFA clubs care? At the moment, clubs must release players for FIFA competitions. They would not need to if UEFA was not part of FIFA.
If a player chooses to play in that FIFA World Cup and miss a month of the club season, then clubs will probably be less inclined to recruit/pay them. Perhaps that player is ok with the MLS or the Saudi Pro League. But if they want the facilities, structure, training and opportunity to become the best they can, they are going to want to play in Europe still. | |

There are already signs of a split within UEFA. France have announced they still intend to attend Women’s U20 World Cup that kicks off in Poland in 29 days.
The other European teams involved are Poland ( hosts) England, Italy, Spain & Portugal. Wonder how many of those will follow France’s example.
