Matt O'Riley - the creative 8? 10:24 - Aug 7 with 1866 viewsBellevue_Blue

He's one I'd love to see us go after.

Had a failed loan at Marseille, looks like he's not part of Brighton's plans. He's still just 25 and had a great first season in the league.

Brighton are notoriously hard to deal with though and are unlikely to let him go for much less than 25M they paid 2 years ago.

I'd be happy if we signed him, however he definitely didn't have a great first season hence being loaned out

Have mentioned him a few times this summer as one I’d love to see at Town.

- Great at breaking lines with passing
- Is a goal threat (usually through late runs into the box)
- Left footed
- 6’2 which is unusual for such a technical player
- Can also play as a 10
- Put up 37 goal contributions in one season at Celtic a couple of years ago (I’m aware it’s only Scotland, still ridiculous output)

Doesn’t seem to be in Brightons plans - wonder if we could do a loan with an obligation next summer. Few questions marks regarding injuries but I think it’s a gamble worth taking.

My concern is only 40 games in last two years is it injuries or loss of form.

Nice points you make there.

To add to this, he suffered an injury 6 minutes into his Brighton debut (terrible tackle on him if I remember correctly) that put his Brighton career on pause before it had even started. Contact injuries happen and he was unlucky there, but he has never had a consistent run at Brighton, and I don't see that changing this season.

I think he would be available at a cheaper fee than people think, and he is a good technical player with physical attributes that do translate well to the Premier League. Low/medium risk with medium/high reward type signing.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

Across all comps and internationals he's played closer to 60 over the past 2 seasons. Had a nasty injury on his debut for Brighton and then found it tough to get ahead of Ayari, Baleba, Milner and Hinshelwood. From what I understand he did alright at Marseille during De Zerbi's chaotic reign, and only moved on because they had the opportunity to sign Quinten Timber and Ethan Nwaneri.

I'd have him here in a heartbeat, he's got a bit of the Mass Luongo about him, tidy on the ball and likes a positive forward pass.
