Emerson, Florentino and Walle Egeli massive positives of the day. Diop is Rapid! Couple of mistakes in terms of shape by the backline as can be expected but mostly positive. Slight concerns if any: Nunez for me struggled at times. Just hasn't got the mobility for the top level perhaps. He can be creative but he can also be very sloppy. First half levels dropped a bit but Clarke again was much to sloppy on the ball. Would drive you mad as a coach. The new boys look a level above at looking after the ball. Lukic will only add to that.

Very Positive first look on 17:53 - Aug 8 with 1612 views | Gary_Knows | I love McKenna, and would have him here in a heartbeat over O’Neil, that said, I do feel like GON’s football at the minute is a breath of fresh air. Yes, I know it’s pre-season, yes I know we won’t play like that for more than 10-12 games over the course of the season, but I really like how we mix it up. When we want to ‘play’ and keep it on the deck, we play it forward and play it with purpose, very rarely are we trying to ‘bait’ the press, and very rarely are the centre backs and keeper playing no more than 4-5 passes between them. The other side I like is that we have a good option to go long now. Get up the pitch, hit Emersonn and get people around him for any loose balls. Really enjoyed the first half today - and yes, I know it’s only pre-season. [Post edited 8 Aug 17:55]

Very Positive first look on 18:03 - Aug 8 with 1427 views | DJR | It wasn't dissimilar to the first-half team at Wycombe, and like there it looked like the team had been playing together for ages with the new players slotting in really well. As regards Clarke, I think you are being harsh because he created more opportunities than Maeda, and whilst Maeda is probably going to be the starter, Clarke struck me as the one substitute that was at least as good as the player they replaced. Of course, their styles are different but late on in a game with perhaps more time on the ball, I could see Clarke doing a decent job for us in the Premier League. Indeed, from recollection his stats for us last time weren't that bad given he wasn't a regular. EDIT: checking Fotmob, he was top with four assists which was more than Enciso on 3 and players like Davis and Hutchinson on 2.. [Post edited 8 Aug 18:15]

Premier is going to be very different. Hamer did ok though and he looks less mobile to me. [Post edited 8 Aug 20:07]

I thought he looked a real Rolls-Royce of a player and an upgrade on Matisuwa in terms of control of the ball.

Hamer is a really pretty mobile. He is very stocky though a quicker turn of pace.

I'm really not sure it is harsh. I don't dispute he can and does create. But you get punished big time in the prem for giving the ball away in some of the areas he does. I like Clarke but he is infuriating at the same time. He slows things down a bit by holding the ball too long and he does turnover possession a fair bit. They are things he can improve and can be coached so certainly wouldn't be giving up on him because he brings qualities. I see him as an impact man at the minute. Maeda is working his way into it but is much stronger on the ball physically and he is dramatically better defensively and working back.
