Found the food (and beaches!) on the island far, far less good than Fuerteventura, and often quite pricey. Mainly visited for the landscapes and Cesar Manrique architecture. Tend to visit one Canary Island a year in January as annual holiday. It really breaks the awful British winter to go somewhere warm, swim in the sea, and when it's super cheap and quiet as all the kids have returned to school. But by far I find the best is Fuerteventura. [Post edited 11 Aug 23:31]

We are thinking of doing a day trip over there. Any recommendations?

I love it, took my son when he was a little un a couple of times and returned with my current wife and another couple and they couldn’t stand the place. Like the diverse landscape and the chilled vibe. Have you been to the north of the island?. Some great caves up there, and I don’t know what the MHT comedy thing is about either but please share with us as I’d be interested if and when I go there again.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Just a day, and presuming you have a car, I'd stay to the north as it saves you time and there are some wonderful landscapes. The Corralejo dunes are sublime, the beaches at El Cotilo are quite something (and also where I proposed to my husband), and it's also a great place for surfing, kitesurfing, scuba etc. If you wanted just beaches with less wind, the dunes side is better. It's a very good area for food because of Italian migrants and the younger, surfing culture. El Cotilo and Lajares have many places to eat, but if you wanted to be in more of a town then you're also not short of options in Corralejo itself, a pretty little place in the centre that for the most part has avoided the worse of mass tourism bar and crap food culture (we always go to eat at least once at La Pulperia). If you wanted to make more of a road trip,I would highly, highly recommend using the central road that goes through Val Verde etc rather than the coast road. Some of the views as you twist around are stunning. [Post edited 12 Aug 8:37]
