There are going to be very few survivors from last season. In my opinion there were very few who were capable of making the step up, 4 or 5 at most. But this does mean we are putting together a complete team with Davis, OShea and maybe Greaves as the only survivors. There is no doubt the new arrivals are major upgrades on last season. Two more arriving from Strasbourg this week and Ashton is saying it doesnt end here. In which case there is going to be some sort of sell off in the last weeks of august. Maybe 7 , 8 or even 9 players going back to the championship.

My guess is we’ll have as many as 15 left in the squad from last season - maybe a couple less. If you look at who we have now, add the 2 incoming signings.

That allows for us to still sign another another 3-5 players (plus any U21s), and I don’t see us doing more business than that now. That still means we have many to ship out.

It was inevitable this summer I think, but having this level of turnover three years in a row is not ideal. There was a narrative last summer that we were signing players that could make the step up if we got promoted, that has largely not turned out to be the case.

Don’t recall that narrative at all but could be wrong. Club was very much buying a squad to get us promoted with little in terms of long term thinking about that group (other than having confidence we could move them on). It was obvious we’d be recruiting to a very different level this summer swapping out plenty of players that were signed in the process.

Most of:

Davis, DOS, Greaves, Kipre, Johnson, Furlong, Matusiwa, the Clarke’s, Philogene, Walle Egeli, Nũnez, Taylor, Mehmeti, McAteer, Akpom, Walton

will all play a role next year. Most will play off the bench (some rarely) but about a third will get a decent number of starts.

This is the reality if we don’t want to repeat 24/25

I agree, with exception of Taylor and H.Clarke, which is where I got a max of 15. There’s a couple more on the list that might go. We’re still looking at half to 2/3rds being carried forward from last season. Just not that many as first choice starters.
