That's a name I haven't heard for a long time. Wikipedia says he moved back to Felixstowe in 2014.
There was also Charles Clover who at 18 won a gold in the 1974 Commonwealth Games in the javelin. But he never came anywhere near to matching that subsequently.

Our club discus thrower (Pete Bullock of Hadleigh Olympiads Essex) regularly came up against Bill Tancred and Bill's brother, Peter. Bill gave the young Peter Bullock, a junior international, loads of advice and encouragement - he was an absolute gentleman among sportsmen at the time and unfortunate to hit the international scene at the same time as the likes of Randy Matson. he was a true legend in his events. |  | | |

Another name from British field sports, maybe 5 years later was Mike Winch. He won silver in the shot putt at the Commonwealth Games in 1974 & 1982 but had the misfortune to be Britain's second best shot putter behind Geoff Capes, who was 2 years younger. |  |
