So many examples of it, pitch being done after a league 1 promotion - How many would have waited to see if we made the PL first, or how the first champ season went? Training ground plans done as soon as they arrived, investment off the pitch being second to none. I’m sure if the first PL promotion didn’t happen that fast half the upgrades inside PR would have been gradually completed in the Champ as well. Not to mention the additions of the Viola family and Clara Vista but with a clear structure still in place. Now the recruitment this off season underlines the ambition. This lot mean business! The ten year plan must be tasty! [Post edited 14 Aug 0:41]

| The owners have been thinking 2 years ahead for a while on 07:06 - Aug 14 by SuffolkPunchFC | I’ve posted several times that this is all about where we will be in 2031/32. A billion pound club, established in the PL and vying for Europe. This is why relegation was never a problem last season - we were already way ahead of the plan, and they had the vision and plan in place to allow for the minor road bump. The ambition has been clear to see from early on, if you pieced together all of the available information and comments. It’s precisely why we will expand the stadium soon, and why the risk is low - the owners know where are journey is taking the club, and the expected results. Hold on tight, and enjoy the ride. |
I agree. If not a £1bn valuation, then well on the road at this rate of progress. I'd estimate that if we stay up this season we'd be knocking on the door of half-way-there, at todays prices, notwithstanding valuations appear to be inflating quite rapidly. Then comes the stadium expansion, further recruitment, monetising of the clubs portfolio of operations, quantifiable value generation from the academy, broadening fanbase, increased squad value, premier league stability and perhaps more... This is why darkdope's posts were so utterly ignorant. Constantly referring to "spending £200m" as if we'd bought a warehouse of apples that were being eaten or rotting away. Not a clue! Nope. We've been asset exchanging, investing and building value. We've not "spend" a penny. Instead of being focused on "being like Brighton" in the literal sense, we are doing it our way and the overall goal is to build a £1bn business as the first target and from the outside it looks that excellent progess is being made.

| The owners have been thinking 2 years ahead for a while on 10:12 - Aug 14 by ThatMuhrenCross | You're spot on about the stadium. I remember when they mentioned 40k+ capacity, the instant response was "we'll never fill it", which is so short sighted. These owners aren't interested in what our attendances were in the Marcus Evans era. They're thinking lightyears ahead of that. I personally think they're being conservative by saying 40k, and that really is only phase one. Longer term, and years away from being announced, I'm sure they see Portman Road as being a 50k+ stadium. The population of Suffolk is almost 800,000 and growing. North East Essex (where we derive a lot of fanbase from) has a population of 340,000. We're just over an hour from central London with good transport connections. The population of the actual town of Ipswich almost becomes irrelevant. We're like a state team in American terms. The potential size of this football club is huge. We're not going to realise that by being Championship also-rans. However, if we were to become a Champions League club on a regular basis, there's no reason why we couldn't evolve to become one of the biggest clubs in England. |
As you allude to, it's absolutely about catchment area but also competitive peers. East Anglia ~2.5M population East of England ~6.5M (adds Essex, Herts and Beds) There are few top flight clubs in either the narrower or broader geography. The yellow and green stain up the road are closest peer-wise, but are not as well positioned communications-wise for people travelling from the south/east, nor do their owners seem to have the ambition of Town's. Our locations for generating local support is huge - East Anglia is a huge desert of top flight football beyond the meteoric rise of Town.

This deserved an uppie anyway, but the darkdope and apples comment is golden, and deserves an appreciative up-vote alone.

| The owners have been thinking 2 years ahead for a while on 08:59 - Aug 14 by PrideOfTheEast | Hope I’m wrong but I still think it’ll take us 3 attempts. This time we’ve massively improved the base of the squad and several of our signings would do a year in the championship I reckon allowing us to go up stronger than this time with key signings rather than an entire reset. All sounds so simple! [Post edited 14 Aug 9:13]

Obviously, staying up will be a tough ask, but I think our view of the Premier League is skewed by our 1 year up there. That was a particularly tough year as none of the established mid-level teams had a bad season. This year loads of teams have changed managers, Fulham particularly look dodgy. European football is going to stretch a few teams from outside the big 6. Also Hull are going to be lucky to reach double figures, and Coventry are making all the mistakes we made in 24/25, except their recruitment is even worse. I predict we'll get between 35 and 40 points and finish from 16th-18th place. A decent striker before the window shuts and we can perhaps be more ambitious.

| The owners have been thinking 2 years ahead for a while on 04:23 - Aug 14 by RetroBlue | I said when GC first took the reigns here that thrur ambitions from day one were tar beyond what any of us were even contemplating, and that was to be regular contenders in the Champions League! Many who saw that post(s) by me would have no doubt considered Id got a screw loose , or worse. I still maintain that is the ultimate ambition, because thats where the financial payback will come, plus of course the non monetary reward of "success ". I once had a poster in my wall when I was at Sheffield uni ( 26 yrs ago) which said simply, "Success, is the not position in which you stand, But the direction in which you look." I reckon thst still holds true today, don't you? |
Certainly does. I like to say, I much prefer to aim for the top and fail than aim for the bottom and succeed. We crashed Europe twice before against all the odds, absolutely no reason why it can't be done again, just not tomorrow though :) | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| The owners have been thinking 2 years ahead for a while on 06:34 - Aug 14 by PrideOfTheEast | The ambitious 3 to 5 year plan from now must be to be a Brighton type and fund accordingly. We’ll spend another fortune next summer if we stay up. |
Alongside and in-keeping with the Brighton model I’d also think we’d be a strong candidate to be part of a multi club ownership, which might worry some people. Clara Vista I believe has an 80% stake in Frosinone Calcio already and talked a lot about Spanish clubs investment opportunities. They’re obviously expanding their football portfolio. Hopefully if we were to establish in the top flight, we’d be top of the food chain so to speak. And I’m sure there are recruitment, knowledge sharing and fast track player development advantages. Man city and the likes of Red Bull have been doing it for years clearly. Brighton successfully with USG as well, BlueCo another. Some of the larger groups buy academies in Africa and South America and all sorts, Who knows though, purely speculation. [Post edited 15 Aug 5:35]
