I actually have to say I thought he did well when he came on, if he ends up being third striker I can live with that.

I like Akpom and was looking forward to seeing him come on, but personally I felt the level was vastly different from Emmerson and as we know anyway we are looking for another striker and I think his cameo showed we do need it

For me, he didn't win anything, couldn't bring others into the game, didn't win anything in the air. He kept them busy, but honestly it just reminded me of when AL Hamadi came on in the last prem season.

Like the fella, think in the champ as a 9 or the his old 10 position he'd score a lot of goals

but for us, I can't see it working at this level

100% this ^^^

I know Jack scored the winner and of all the subs he has it to offer at this level, but Akpom just look so slow compared to Emmersonn. And surprisingly easy to knock off the ball , which i wasnt expect tbh.

Ill be annoyed if we offload Jack.

Yes as third striker, no higher.

He’s a far better striker than Hirst. It’s why George was moved on and Akpom will get some minutes during the season probably as 3rd choice striker

I think the main reason was we could net a juicy profit on Hirst which wasn’t likely on Akpom given we just paid £7m for him. We the circumstances reversed I think we would’ve moved Akpom on and kept Hirst, but they weren’t.

In all honesty there’s probably not a lot to choose between them, they’re quite different forwards but neither are really premier league quality. The fact Hirst has gone to Stoke probably shows where his level is, I’m not sure Akpom is any higher. I did think he was unlucky last season though, he rarely got a chance in the 9 and on the rare occasions he did he scored.

As a 3rd choice forward it’s fine. One we’ll upgrade at some stage but we’re not there yet. It’s a shorter season, 38 league games vs 46 and far fewer midweeks. He may well not start a game for us this season, and if we land a new 9 and he & Emersonn stay fit Akpom might not see many minutes off the bench either.
