2-0 down and absolutely under the cosh we wrestled back control and ended with good stats/data. Completely understand no points for that but the dressing room get something from that. We can go toe to toe with one of the best teams in the World and compete. We didn't implode (in the context of the implosion last week). We stood up.

there were plenty of positives & our season will not be defined by the games against the big boys. At least it wasn't a demoralising thrashing, which looked possible after the first 10 minutes.
I hope our defence looks stronger against Palace & Everton. |  |

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I don't think we turned up at all first half. The second half just meandered into nothingness.
The last 2 matches have been against teams that play on a whole different level to us though, so mean little to our season. The next 3 are where we really need to earn our corn. |
We didn't show up for 8 minutes. Even then Liverpool started in fire and can run riot against most when they are in that mode. The rest of the half we were decent. We matched them for shot and actually in slightly better areas as I say back up by the stats (football isn't won on paper of course but over a season it stands you in good stead).
I didn't think we stopped all game and it did meander for me. Thought it was a good game. Perhaps Liverpool has a other gear but we were getting in behind in the wide areas at time. Liverpool were outstanding at cutting out crosses and pullbacks. They are better than us.

Very. Men v Boys and shows how far off we are. But that’s how far off from the top, so it could be worse. If we were aiming for top six I’d be worried. I assume we’re not  .
We were well and truly undone by a team who were better individually all over the pitch and far better collectively. We were slower in body and mind, but that’s what shedloads of cash, a team who have mostly played together for ages and a top manager gets you.
I’m just grateful Liverpool took their foot of the gas as they knew they’ve beaten us in the first quarter. I’m a bit disappointed with our low energy and low aggression and our becoming habitual open midfield. We looked scared of them, so that seemed like an inevitable outcome.
Man U and tonight won’t define our season, but we need to get better quickly. I can’t think of a way to spin tonight positively, as we didn’t get close to hurting them. |  |

Similar to how I feel.
I do worry a bit, that we are telling ourselves the same kind of things we were telling ourselves last time we were here. "It doesn't matter against these top teams" kind of stuff. I understand that we are likely to get beaten by these teams, but we need to make ourselves harder to beat. We must remember how middling Premier League teams have one or moments of magic, or just plain relentlessness in them, get themselves ahead, and then just seem to easily pilfer the remaining time of the game away.
We started the season brilliantly, and really need to build on that in the next few games. If we fail to do that, it going to feel like the realisation that dawned on us after the Southampton, West Ham and Everton games early last Prem season, and will become a real slog again. | | | |
