New Google satellite images showing the scale of destruction in Gaza 07:30 - Oct 1 with 1938 viewsStokieBlue

New images from Google Maps show the extent of the damage in Gaza:

https://www.theguardian.com/wo

"The estimate of the total amount of rubble in Gaza is 61m tonnes. It is approximately 20 times the amount of rubble generated in all wars across the world over the last 18 years"

Thanks Mellowblue

Whether it's necessary or not, let me clarify a couple of points:

Sarcasm is probably the lowest form of wit, but I guess it's a question of delivery. But anyway, the situation in Palestine is no laughing matter. I have black Americans, North African Muslims, white Europeans, Indian Hindus and Pakistani Muslims and even Sephardic Jews in my immediate family. I also currently live in France. I'm more anti-hatred than pro-peace and generally have disdain for all politicians of all stripes in all countries. My impartiality can be mistaken (by the ignorant and extremist) for being a supporter or apologist for certain leaders. I come here in frustration, desperation and even anger - but always in peace.

I wasn't having a go at you with regards to your comments about Palestine, I just used your post to vent my frustration at what these poor people have lived through since 1948, 1967 and ever since.

Oh heck, I am fine with you, no probs, you certainly have a diverse background, amazingly so. If you are fervently involved in decrying the evils of this world, I guess cynical rage can spill over in all directions.

so a post that serves no purpose but to bait. perhaps read some of phil's posts and reconsider?

My post serves a very obvious purpose, and it has nothing to do with baiting:

This thread is about the suffering being subjected to the people of Gaza, as opposed to discussing the relative horrors committed by any government based on the weight of rubble produced in a bombing campaign.

Concentrating on the scale and nature of any destruction rather than on its victims, serves to depersonalise individual sufferers and dehumanise the Palestinian people as a whole.

That is clear. In addition my previous responses to other posters in this thread also emphasise the compassion towards the victims which is lacking in their comments.

Oddly enough, my own family background is very much east Suffolk. It's my in-laws, nieces and nephews and my own children that provide all the "colour" to my family. Multi-culturalism can provide a need to always press for peace as much as it can be a tinderbox sparked by hate.

The more culture, the more back-stories for sure. Strange things humans. So much intolerance.
