Big match revisited s11 e1 12:56 - Oct 3 with 1397 viewsflykickingbybgunn

Just come on. Man U v Town.
Beatties first game. Hits the bar with a header from outside the D.
Utd with Law and Best.
Many highlights.
Beyond me to be able to provide a link.
Not going to let on the score.
For those watching in black and white United are in the red.
Enjoy.

David Best in goal. He was a favorite of mine back in the day.
Geoff Hammond coming on as sub as well.
Great times.

The game that could almost be called the start of the Golden Era. And that kit!A thing of beauty . With the brand new badge, the gold trim looking like a military insignia. I Have asked if Planet Blue could do a replica. It was only work briefly for it seems the first couple of months! By the time Mick lifted the Texaco Up at the end of the season we had the white collar.

The Texaco Cup ? I hear them say.
A competition for clubs that did not quite make European places that year.
The only real thing you need to remember was we beat the Budgies 2-1 twice in a two legged final.
It was grim but somebody had to watch it .....

We were 13th in 71-2, steady progress on the previous seasons narrow escape, so missed out on Europe by quite a bit! However, over that summer, a few parts of Robsons’ first jigsaw fell into place. Players matured, players settled, some players had been moved on, the Club was in a better place. While not the most valued of the cups, that, and its predecessor The Watney Cup, were still taken seriously. It set us up nicely. And as you say, who could have planned the Final! No footage ever seems to have emerged, unless Anglia have destroyed it!!

There were 4 rounds so there must have been 16 teams. I have a feeling there were some Scottish clubs, but I might be wrong.

Yes there were Scottish teams.
We beat St Johnstone on the way to winning it.

2nd round vs Wolves (won 3-1 on aggregate; 2-1 at home, 1-0 away)
Semi-final vs Newcastle (won 2-1 on aggregate, 1-0 at home, 1-1 away)

Our only season in that tournament.

Proper shorts too!

Was this the season Man U got relegated?

Poll: Will you be watching the 3rd/4th place play off game?
