| Anyone else at The Coral gig at the Koko tonight? on 23:19 - Oct 16 with 1111 views | Swansea_Blue | I bet it wasn't as good as this - Kevin Bloody Wilson by quad 16 Oct 21:01I went to see Kevin Bloody Wilson at the Corn Exchange on Wednesday night supported by his daughter Jenny Talia (took me a while to get it).
Cracking night. Took me back nearly 40 years. Something very liberating about belting out rude songs at the top of my voice. And sticking up 2 middle fingers to the world.
To top it off, I'd been for a couple of pints and a pizza at The Cricketers before the gig. Walked down the road where the taxi rank is to where the old Debenhams was, when all of a sudden Jason Dozzell appears in front of me. Had a brief chat and a handshake. What a thoroughly nice bloke. Asked me how I was and what I was doing that night. He didn't know who Kevin Bloody Wilson was. But really made my night nonetheless [grin] I used to be a bit of a music and gig freak in the late 80s and 90s and then it dropped off my radar completely. I had a nice separates system with bi-wired decent speakers, and then for some reason I just stopped listening to music. The speakers died 25+ years ago and I never replaced them. I've still got the same 1990s separates, utterly impotent without their speakers. I've never embraced digital music, streaming services or any of these Sonos type systems people have now. That's not really relevant to anything, other than to say that lately I've noticed that a lot of bands from back then have far outlasted my ancient stereo system and are still going strong. Loads of indie bands like The coral are still going, but you just don't hear about them. Loads of metal and rock bands too of course, yet they are only played relentlessly on Planet Rock. I heard the other day that Saxon are touring again. It's nuts - I remember seeing them at the Corn Exchange in about 89/90 and thinking they were old timers then. [Post edited 16 Oct 23:20]

Amazing debut! And then what a journey since. Such intelligent and soulful songwriting. The best British band of the last 25 years imo.

Back in the day, I vividly remember hearing the first few seconds of ‘Spanish Main’ and simultaneously thinking wtaf is this, and being incredibly intrigued! Intrigued not just by them, but also their influences.

Yes! Magical stuff. Psych, rockabilly, sea shanties, blues all at once and they never stopped experimenting. And purposefully bleev up their mainstream fame with n nightfreak and the sons of Becker at height of it all. Every album since has audio been a masterpiece.
