Anyone used the cheaper car hire companies (Noleggiare, Drivalia, Centauro)?

We're off to visit family who live a couple of hours drive from Rome and I'd normally book with Hertz or Enterprise but they're double the price of the companies I've mentioned above.

Yes - I can’t remember the exact company I used but I was just over an hour late to pick up the car (delayed flight and then long wait for shuttle bus to take me to the rental compound thing) and they said my booking was no longer valid and the car wasn’t available. Had to pay through the nose to get a car (which I’m pretty sure was just the car I was supposed to have). I’ve always just paid the premium for the reputable firms since then, especially in Italy.

Heard some horror stories while discussing with club mates at cross country this morning so I've just paid the premium to go with a well known company.

I'd probably have taken the risk of a smaller company if it was still just the wife and me.

Drivalia perfectly trustworthy company, I’m sure that’s the mob my Pa uses when he comes back to EA from Sevilla for Abbot Ale and Pie and Mash (monthly!)
