Anyhow, a moment of much needed levity. I was just in the hardware shop in a local flag hanging zone and was pleased to see how tatty and bedraggled they had become. Mentioned this to the Asian heritage shopkeeper who said that to be fair he had sold them thousands of cable ties and that one of them had fallen from a ladder and broken his leg. He was keen for the flags to be refreshed and has told the chief flag shagger as much. Keep Britain tidy shaggers, take the bedraggled things down ffs.

Always seems a bit desperate to me, not sure why anybody needs to demonstrate that sort of shallow insecurity. We all know where we are and who we are. A bit like walking down the street shouting "I'm English!", or whatever, all the time, until your voice is hoarse.

As a country we should take back control - it's sad that the national flag has been corrupted such that it's now a symbol of the racist minority. Go to The US or France (to name a couple) and flag flying is done with a sense of pride & at scale. Here we've allowed the St. George's flag to be hijacked by xenophobes, not sure if the Union Flag has been to the same degree. It all started with the combination of the ultra-pc lot saying not to raise flags and racists being the only ones who did... |
