Suffolk’s second club. 19:57 - Nov 7 with 947 viewsPerublue

Bury currently hold that position going solely on the English football pyramid….them,Lowestoft,Leiston and Needham have shared that position/role between them over the last few decade’s I think… any others I may have have forgotten ? .. Sudbury (at least one of them ) maybe ?

If Bury go up this season I believe unless I’m totally misunderstanding the system they could end up in the same division as the “phoenix” northern Bury if they also go up ?

Poll: Should Burns or Chaplin now replace the Shefki/Pablo TWTD question of yore ?

Sudbury Town were the top dogs for a good few years, late 80s and into the 90s. Reached the Vase final. Several seasons at Step 2. Beat Brighton in the FA Cup 1st round. Must be great for the players watching Brighton now and thinking, beat them.

Bury drew with Bournemouth 0-0 at Bury's old Kings Rd ground in the 60s. FA Cup Round 1.
Lost the replay 3-0 if I recall correctly.
I think Bournemouth might win that more easily now.

If i may add something here Perublue.

Local teams Bury Town and Needham Market and Leiston all play at step 7 level and if any of these teams were to be promoted, would probably enter the National League North (for geographical reasons) which is step 6 level.

Sadly, it has only emerged recently that Lowestoft Town are close to the financial brink of even existing as a club - but I believe this is being addressed by the local councillors and football authorities etc right now.

Bury Fc the phoenix club, upon checking, also play at step 7 level, but in a different league - the Northern Premier League, so yes if they were promoted then they could also be in the National League North, however back-to- back promotions in unlikely.

Non league football is definitely on the rise, compared to say the product of the Premier League. Pay at turnstiles, lower ticket prices, decent football games and having a beer with your mates is all part of the match-day experience now.

Also the Suffolk Premier Cup matches return soon, I think there's a couple of outstanding ties before the QF's soon.

I hope this helps ?

Bury were always Suffolk's second club when I was growing up. They were in the Southern League from memory (80's).

Sudbury (as in Town) were handy and got Wembley in 1989 (we travelled down the A12 together as we were on our way to Brighton.) Think they were still in the Eastern Counties at this point but did get to the Southern League (joining Bury) early 90s.

Can certainly recall Sudbury in the FA Cup proper once or twice too.

I remember the cup run well - got some really happy memories of that time.

I think I was about 12 and playing for Sudbury’s kids teams. We didn’t lose a game for 3 years before ColU took our best players!

Look East Came to film in the bar at the old priory ground before the Brighton game and the FA Cup had been brought on loan from the FA. So got a pic of me with the FA cup somewhere at parents’ house.

From memory they lost at layer road to Brentford in the next game after beating Brighton. I was at both games.

Those really really were the days!
