This always frustrates me too.
I live just around the corner from the Den, and in September we had Millwall v Leeds (a fixture with more notorious fans) at 3pm on a Saturday - at a time of year where you can drink outside all day. You could argue that the police have a much larger area to cover in London - whereas it can be quite easily contained in Norwich or Ipswich - and the Met have much bigger issues to deal with on a a daily basis.
For me, 12pm on a Sunday sucks the life out of the game and much of the atmosphere. Instead of just turning up to your favourite sport after a few beers, everyone has to struggle to sort how they’re going to get to the game (at stupid o’clock) and there’s no time for an atmosphere to build.
It can only be down to police resources and a fear that family shopping might be disrupted by having he game on a Saturday. |  |
